The Power of One
Can one person make a real difference in the world? I believe it can happen. I believe it has happened - many times in history.
When you think of great persons in history, you also have to think of how they changed the world right around them first then took on the rest of the world. Even the ne’er-do-wells began as an individual with an idea, then they pursued that until they met the goal.
One Person changed our calendar and our lives for eternity.
One person changed the printed word by inventing a printing press.
One person changed the masses into murderers by association under the reign of the Nazis.
One person led the Pilgrims as they entered these shores.
One person caused a court ruling to ban prayer from public schools.
One person began a movement we call Sunday School, that endures even today.
One person stood bravely against racial discrimination, and gave his life for civil rights.
Great movements in history always began with one person. Whether the changes were for good or for evil, that one person fought through the criticisms, the obstacles, and the hurdles to lead others into his or her own personal battle.
Is there today one person who will stand for good? One person who will begin a battle for rights without presumption? One person who understands the Constitution as it was written without the flavoring added by modern courts? One person who knows that “the pursuit of happiness” doesn’t necessarily mean the attainment of it?
If you want to be that “one person”, begin with those around you. Have a dream that you cling to, and push forward regardless of the nay-sayers. Take a stand for those things that are good and right. Discard compromise in these areas. There’s no room for compromise when issues are black and white. There’s no riding the fence.
It’s time for me to take a stand here and now. I am a Christian. A blood-bought, saved, baptized, Bible-believing Christian. I believe that God is not a man that He should lie. Therefore, if anything is true, it comes from God. And if it comes from God, then it is true.
I may compromise on the color of my nail polish, but I will not compromise on absolutes.
There. I’ve said it.
