There is really a lot to think about when you move. You have to think about how you’re going to transport your furnishings and other items. You have to think about what you really think is worth keeping, and what might as well be thrown away or given away.

One of the things I will have to get new is a mattress. See, way back when Danny got sick and we moved our bed out of the bedroom and put a hospital bed in there, I got rid of the mattress and box springs. They were incredibly old and not worth keeping around, they were so worn out.

After he passed away, I just haven’t been able to bring myself to sleep in that bedroom so I’ve been using a smaller room. I’ve just been using a roll-away bed instead of a regular bed. The truth is, the roll-away is pretty darned comfortable! Especially with an egg crate mattress on it. I sleep like a baby on that thing.

Moving into a house means looking at beds and bedding for myself. I’ll probably continue using the roll-away bed until I can get just the bedroom set I want, though. I don’t jump into purchases very quickly and this will be something that needs to last for years.

The first weekend in April, my younger daughter and I will head up to my Mom’s for a two-day visit. Daughter hasn’t been up there in awhile and is eager to see her Grandma. Since she’s not sure her car will make that long trip anymore, I’ve requested those days off so I can take her. After all, I want to see Mom, too!

Before we go, I’ll make sure my car payment and car insurance are all paid up, there’s plenty of gas in the car and the oil isn’t low. Since it’s just for overnight, really, I won’t have to pack much - just one extra outfit and something to sleep in.

We’re moving. We’ve lived here about eight years now and it seems more like twenty years. This is the house where I took care of Danny until he passed away. This is the house I homeschooled my children in. This is the house that is still full of memories of gardening and goats and chickens.

While this is really just an old, worn out mobile home, it has been “home” in every sense of the word and leaving it is hard. It’s not the house itself that means anything. I really do need a better place to live and it needs to be closer to work. It’s what this house represents on so many levels that makes it hard for me to leave it.

I’ve been packing boxes and sorting through things. My kids have been helping with this, too. For me, though, some things have brought me to tears and honestly, I dread the last time I walk out of this house never to return. I thought I would look forward to moving, and in a sense, I do. But, in another sense, I don’t want to move at all.

Working in the other city McDonald’s has given me a good view of the summer fashions. See, around here, the first warm day brings out all the skinny tees, tank tops, and boardshorts. I’ve mostly seen young people decked out in their warm weather garb, but I’m beginning to see those in their 20s and 30s wearing more summery apparel.

I am nowhere near that age, so I still carry a sweater or jacket with me all the time. I get cold pretty easily, but I know I’m going to be on the lookout for summer cottons very soon!

With all the hours I spend on my feet at work, you’d think I would be in great shape by now. Still, I absolutely get so tired and sore by the end of my shift that I’m wondering if I should get a treadmill or some other kind of fitness equipment, and work out sometime between shifts.

I’m not sure I could be dedicated enough to join a gym and make membership worth my while. But, if there was exercise equipment at home, I would be more likely to use that. After I get moved, I might look into it for my own health and well-being.

My doctor had told me several years ago that ordinary walking would be good for my back problems. I tried it here for awhile, outside, but we have so many rocks here I was actually in danger of falling and further injuring an already-blown disk!
