Before I took her to board at the vet’s office, I knew Sassy was having some ear problems. Shih Tzus tend to have ear infections due to the way their ears are shaped inside and the fact that the ear leather lies so flat against their head, not allowing the ear to dry properly. Well, Sassy’s ears had gotten very bad and nothing I was using would clear them up.

After the vet checked her ears and used his own clinical laboratory service, he found she had severe infections in both ears. I forget what he called it. Something “externa”. This was the kind of infection that made her smell really bad all the time. He prescribed antibiotic drops for her and by the time I went to pick her up, the infections were gone and she was smelling sweet again. She still had to have the drops put in for another three days to finish off the round of medicine, but she’s much happier now that her ears aren’t bothering her!
