In a few weeks, I’ll be having a make-up party here at my house. I’m pretty excited about it since we just moved in here and I’m happy to show off the house. I need to really spend a lot more time working on decorating in here before the party, though.

I’ve planned to put all our framed family photographs on one wall, next to the front door. It used to be that it was a no-no to have family pictures in the living room. I never understood why, but it’s common practice now and it’s where I like them to hang. I also plan to have some nice, aromatherapy candles lit so ladies will relax while they’re here. I’m hoping to get all the glass clings painted for the front door, too, to add that little bit of pizazz to the entry way. The biggest problem is having enough comfortable seating for everyone.

These parties are a lot of fun. It’s more than just anti wrinkle cream - it’s foot massages, facials, and relaxation music. The last one I attended, I came away feeling refreshed and rested!

Oh, and did I mention my Younger Daughter is the person who’s doing the demonstrations? Yeah. That will make the party even better for me

I am one of those people who neither wears a watch nor uses a conventional alarm clock. I depend on my cell phone to provide me with the time of day and I use its alarm to awaken me when I need to get up and get ready for work.

Earlier this evening, though, I was talking to youngest son as he was browsing through an online catalog, finding all kinds of unusual items. Some of these items were time pieces with various functions. Some had the whole solar system on the face, and it rotated to mimic the positions of the stars at any given time of the day. Others were luxury watches like the Chanel J12. Seeing as how I don’t currently even own a watch, I wondered aloud if it might be a good idea to get one since I really am wanting to step up further in my job. I’d like to know that I will be on time not only for regular work schedules, but also for meetings and classes I’ll have to take as I move ahead toward a promotion.

I was delighted at work last night when my oldest son and his family showed up where I work. I was also fortunate that I was able to take my break right then and join them for supper at McDonald’s. I don’t get to see them nearly often enough. I didn’t give big kisses all around because I’m sick and didn’t want to spread it to them, but it sure was hard to resist!

Son’s wife is due to have a baby in about two weeks. It’s a boy and they are naming him Devon, which I think is a handsome name. They already have other children including a two year old named Kurstian (pronounced “Kirsten), so their life and home are all about baby cribs and diapers right now. It’s fun to watch a young, growing family interact, don’t you think?

Son is a patient but firm father with his children and they listen to him without being fearful of him. I think that speaks well of his parenting skills.

By the way, this will make grandchild #8 for me!

A few months ago, I really had no desire to move up in the company I work for. I was pretty satisfied right where I was, as an associate manager. But lately I’ve reconsidered and now would like to learn more and move up to a higher and more well-paying position. Eventually, I’d like to be away from the “front lines” at McDonald’s and perhaps work in our corporate office or work in the field at different stores, making sure everything is running smoothly.

Even now, though, we are evaluated before every raise to make sure we have learned a sufficient amount to perform our jobs capably and to specific standards and goals. I have no doubt that some kind of corporate performance management program is used in assessing the evaluations. We already use a type of cpm to test job applicants and see if they are a good fit for our work environment.

Now it’s up to me to learn as much as I can and implement everything I learn so that further promotion is possible.

My older daughter called me this morning to see if I wanted to go have lunch with her and two of her children. Of course, I jumped at the chance. We don’t get together very often because of our work schedules so this was a great way to relax for a couple of hours and visit.

We went to Wendy’s mainly so we could get our food quickly and inexpensively, giving us more time to just sit and talk. She had her two older children with her. Her youngest child is at a soccer camp this week in another state, having loads of fun, I’m sure, since he eats and sleeps soccer.

We spent about 2 hours talking and laughing and catching up with what’s going on in each others’ lives. It was great!
